Summary: Dan knew that he was at fault, but he would never apologise. After all, his pride was always in the way. Things eventually got heated between him and Phil, resulting in hurtful comments made.
Genre: Hurt, fluff at the end
Note: Italics means it’s Dan’s thoughts.
Dan was never one to apologise. He knew he was at fault. He knew that he was wrong for leaving the stove unattended. And he knew he was supposed to apologise to a fuming Phil standing in front of him.
But yet, strangely enough, he couldn’t.
“Dan! It was so irresponsible of you to just leave the stove on while you went to sleep!”
“Well, I didn’t intend to sleep. I just kind of…dozed off.”
“Stop giving excuses! What would have happened if I didn’t come home in time? You could have been burnt to death!”
“Jesus Christ, Phil, you don’t have to be so dramatic.” Dan rolled his eyes. It was so typical of Phil to over-exaggerate everything.
“That’s so you. You are always so irresponsible and you never do anything right!” Dan couldn’t believe his ears. The usually calm and sweet Phil was pointing out all his faults.
“Oh yeah, what about yourself? You’re so clumsy and weak, if I wasn’t here for you, you would have died in some freak accident a long time ago! You’re so great, aren’t you? Fine, I’ll show you that I don’t need you to survive!”
Before he knew it, he had already spat out the hurtful words into Phil’s face. Hurt flashed on Phil’s face.
“You don’t need me?” He whispered, with tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
“Phil, that’s not what I mean-” Dan reached his hand out to comfort Phil but the latter pulled back.
“No, that’s exactly what you mea! You’re all grown up now, you don’t need me anymore!”
“Phil, please, listen to me-”
“No! Get out! I don’t want to see you ever again!” Phil turned his back on Dan as he pointed to the door.
In his heart, he knew he was wrong. He knew that he had to apologise. But his pride wouldn’t allow him to.
“Fine.” Dan grabbed his wallet and phone as he walked out.
The moment he stepped out into the street, he regretted his decision. The icy cold wind of the London air caused him to shiver and sneeze as he tried to desperately keep himself warm by wrapping his arms around him.
“Fuck!” How he wished he never fought with Phil. He would still have been warm and comfy, probably snuggling up beside Phil now.
Now, what am I supposed to do?
You could go back and apologise to Phil. He’s not a petty person, he’ll probably forgive you.
It’s his fault for starting the fight first!
Well, but he was stating the truth right? Plus you were the one who hurt him!
“But…there’s no way I’m going back so soon!” Dan sighed to himself as he settled onto a park bench. Looking at his phone, he gasped as he noticed there were 50 missed calls and texts.
“Dan, where are you? You didn’t bring your jacket…and I know it’s cold outside.”
“Dan, I’m so sorry. Please come back okay?”
“Dan, I miss you already. Please, I’m begging you, just come back alright? I’ll change, I promise!”
“Dan, please don’t ignore me. Come back!”
“Dan, if you’re reading this, just know that I am very sorry for everything. I promise you that I will never ever do that again. Just…just come home soon okay? Or reply me at least so that I know you are safe.”
Tears slowly pooled in Dan’s eyes as he read each and every one of the messages. Guilt welled up inside him as he slowly got up from the bench, trudging himself home. He couldn’t believe that Phil actually blamed himself for what happened.
“Spork.” Dan muttered softly under his breath as he hesitated at the front door of their apartment.
What should I say?
“Fuck it, what’s the worst that can happen?” He opened the door in one swift motion and was immediately tackled to the ground.
“Dan! You’re back! I’m so sorry, please forgive me! Please don’t ever leave me alone again!” Phil rambled on as he was a sobbing mess. As Dan slowly registered what was going on, he rubbed circles on Phil’s back.
“You spork, why are you saying sorry? It was my fault and I know I was wrong for being so irresponsible and defensive and terrible and horrible and-” Dan’s rambling was cut off by a passionate kiss from Phil.
“Mmph…Phil…I just wanted to say that I’m sorry.”
“I know and it’s okay. Because I forgive you for everything.” Dan snuggled himself closer to Phil as he smiled to himself.
“Let’s cuddle in bed okay? I’m freezing right now.” Dan whined and Phil let out a loud laugh.
“Okay bear. Let’s go.” Phil carried Dan up as the younger man snuggled even closer to him.
“I love you, bear.” Not hearing any reply, Phil looked down only to see that Dan had fallen asleep. Chuckling to himself, Phil tried to climb up the steps as softly as possibly. Placing Dan on the bed, he covered both of them with the duvet and kissed Dan.
